FUNdamentals - Kids in the park Aim of the Program

The High Performance Football Development Program has been established to develop and deliver a specialist coaching unit in consultation with the Football Federation South West to provide a sound technical foundation for male and female players between the ages of 5 and 17 years old.  This has been developed as an individual based squad program and is independent from any Club involvement.  Players simply receive ‘extra’ coaching to supplement Club training and this has been introduced to replace the Football West Academy in the South West Region.

We are now at the next phase of the Program and are excited to extend the age groups further to create an underpinning program for all interested players turning six to eight in 2010 (born 2002 to 2004).

As with any learning environment, building sound learning blocks is the key to developing the skills required to move forward. The program is designed to give young players a sound technical base in a structured and appropriate manner, with focus on making each session challenging, varied and fun. This provides a perfect opportunity for fast progression whilst instilling in the players ‘good habits’ thus developing competent players in the future.

Selection Aim

There is no assessment and all players are invited to join the program. It is however, our primary objective to align each individual into a group that best suits their ability level, particularly with regard to technique and coachability.  As players develop differently, the program has been designed to suit the individual by creating a structured pathway to help the player progress accordingly.

Participation Conditions

All players must be pre-registered using the Online Registration Form - Confirmation will be emailed.

Players must adhere to the code of conduct section of the agreement signed by a parent/guardian. This will be sent to you by email and must be completed and given to the coach on the first session.

Coaching Staff

The program is being directed by:

Paul Wozny - Formerly Football West National Training Centre Head Coach and Regional Coordinator (Great Southern and Goldfields).

Alongside will be a number of accredited and experienced coaches including:

Perry Krakowczyk – SW Academy of Sport Head Coach.

James Young – Qualified Physical Education Teacher, high performance football coach and a specialised conditioning and SAQ (Speed, Agility, Quickness) instructor.

Local coaches will be selected to assist where necessary and will follow a set technical program in line with the Football Federation Australia National Curriculum.

Sponsorship Possibilities

As this is a brand new initiative, the FFSW are seeking expressions of interest for a number of sponsorship opportunities.  This will allow the players to receive additional benefits from the program in addition to providing a first class coaching service.

U9 to U14s - Football (Soccer) Development Program

Following the successful presentation at the FFSW HPC Information Evening, details are provided to assist players register their interest in FFSW's HPC programs and for their attendance at HPC Trials on 31st Jan 2010 .... read on for all the details and completion of the High Performance Assessment Registration Form.

The Aim of the Program
The High Performance Football Development Program has been established to develop and deliver a specialist coaching unit in consultation with the Football Federation South West to provide a sound technical foundation for male and female players between the ages of 8 and 15 for boys & 8 and 17 for girls.  This has been developed as an individual based squad program and is independent from any Club involvement.  The players will simply be receiving ‘extra’ coaching to supplement Club training and will not conflict or lead to ‘poaching’ of players.

As with any learning environment, the student will learn best in smaller groups and at similar levels.  This provides a perfect opportunity for fast progression whilst instilling in the players ‘good habits’ thus developing competent players in the future.

Selection Aim
The primary objective is to accurately assess each individual’s ability based on technique, athleticism, attitude and coachability.  As players develop differently, the program has been designed to suit the individual by creating a structured pathway broken into two streams.

The High Performance Centre (HPC)
The aim of the Program is to give the player the best opportunity to achieve their full playing potential based on their current ability levels. This allows each individual to be aligned to a group which will challenge their skills, whilst allowing for continual progression.

There are two streams within the Program:

  1. High Performance (Advanced) Player - formerly Academy level
Aimed at the more talented player who has met the selection criteria.  Will be asked to train with the group on a weekly basis at one training centre.
  2. HPC Development (Feeder) Group
Aimed at the player who will benefit from sound technical coaching principles and is committed to one session per week.  Homework will also be given and there will be provision for the opportunity to move into the HPC Advanced group based on improved performance.

Coaching Staff

The program is being directed and conducted by:

Paul Wozny - Formerly Football West National Training Centre Head Coach and Regional Coordinator (Great Southern and Goldfields).

Alongside will be a number of accredited and experienced coaches including:

Perry Krakowczyk – 2009 & 2010 SWAS Head Coach and 2008/2009 Regional Development Officer South West.

James Young – Qualified Physical Education Teacher, high performance football coach and a specialised conditioning and SAQ instructor.

Local coaches will be selected to assist where necessary and will follow a set technical program in line with the Football Federation Australia National Curriculum.

Who is Paul Wozny?
Paul’s experience as a youth development coach comes from working within professional league clubs in Europe as well as being Head Coach of the National Training Centre for Western Australian and as a State Coach.  His qualifications include Football Federation of Australia (FFA) National Licence, FFA Coaching Instructor, English FA Academy Managers’ Licence and UEFA Advanced Licence.

The HPC will accommodate a two tier approach with Development Squads in two locations, Bunbury and Busselton, and one High Performance (HP) Squad in each age group together with a Girls Only Squad, it is envisaged that the HP squads will run at alternate locations depending on the successful participants.  High Performance Coaches Perry Krakowczyk & James Young will be putting our young football players through their paces and are looking forward to a great year ahead.

The commitment of the FFSW High Performance Centre is to provide players with Individual Development Programs in a Team Environment.  The program selection process will ensure that players are entered into the appropriate squad to best suit player progress and to achieve full playing potential, with the ability for players to move within the HPC squads as their skills progress.

Four blocks of seven weeks each, at a cost of $95 per block, will be offered to fit within 2010 school terms.  The FFSW believes this will provide an easier option financially for families and also give opportunity to "try out" the program to ensure confidence and integrity of delivery without feeling committed to the entire season.

The HPC will initially invite players within the following age groups - girls and boys turning 9/10, 11/12 and 13/14 and girls turning 15/16/17 within 2010.

The FFSW are also committed to establishing skill specific and age appropriate programs for the 15-17 age groups and Expressions Of Interest are sought to determine a player base to assist in its implementation.  If you have a player in this group please register your interest at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Coach Education

It is hoped that passionate coaches of all age groups and abilities, interested in being involved in the FFSW Coaches Hub or have a willingness to be part of a successful coaching culture will become involved in the Coaches Hub Network and to steer a direction for the education and development of regional coaches within the South West.
